Seminar "The Skills of a Translator in the Third Millennium"

Seminar "The Skills of a Translator in the Third Millennium"

Our university welcomed Andreza Pavani and Giulia Criscillo from the Urbino-based translation agency EuroTrad, which has been providing translation, localization and interpreting services in hundreds of languages since 1995. During this seminar, organized by our professor Joe Caliò, our guests introduced our students to the agency, recounting its history and evolution over the years to the present day.

But the meeting was not limited to just that, quite the contrary. Andreza Pavani, Giulia Criscillo and Professor Caliò illustrated, in particular, the reality that a professional translator has to deal with once he or she finishes his or her studies, explaining what it is like to work within an agency and giving practical and useful advice in order to prepare students to face their career path in the best possible way.

In addition, our students were able to take advantage of the opportunity to ask the speakers some questions about the working realities within an agency, and finally, a small discussion was opened regarding the profession of the translator and the resources they can use to carry out their service as effectively as possible.

Directly confronting these exponents and the world of work is a fundamental step in a translator's course of study. For this reason, the faculty at Scuola Superiore per Mediatori Linguistici Palermo, who are themselves professionals in the field, are committed to making these kinds of seminars possible, which are sometimes held alongside lectures, to ensure that our students receive an all-round education.
