SSML Palermo Open Day

In recent weeks, we have opened the doors of our university to welcome students from all over Sicily. That's right, our open day: a day when we try to introduce our world to new generations, when professors and students share their passion for languages. It is essential, for those who are not familiar with our reality, to immerse themselves deeply in the everyday life of our classes, because it is not only about learning foreign languages, but about the possibility of being able to concretely face the world of interlingual and digital communication. But what better way than to involve them in our workshops? So our students give a demonstration of what is usually done in the classroom: we start in the lecture hall, where our future interpreters practice interpreting techniques, both simultaneous and consecutive, to give them a taste of what will be waiting for them during the day, flanked by our professors.

After this brief introduction, to sweeten the day, professors and students gather in the inner courtyard to answer questions, share opinions and enjoy the sunshine in front during a short coffee break. Then the real experience as a "student" of SSML begins, you just have to choose which classes to attend. You can attend both language and translation classes in English, French, Spanish, German and Chinese, with times devoted to conversation, grammar and translation with our native speakers, as well as the performance of our simultaneous speakers in the laboratory. One of the aspects we encounter most frequently, and which always makes us proud, is the curiosity and amazement with which these students approach our world, which is particularly suitable for anyone who wants to become a professional ready for the working world.
