Together 2023 ELIA Event - European Language Industry Association

On February 23 and 24, at the Barceló Aran Mantegna hotel in Rome, the ninth edition of the "Together 2023" organized by the association Elia (European Language Industry Association). Second-year master's students had the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with translators, interpreters and translation agencies from all over the world.

The first day of the event opened with an introduction and warm welcome from the event organizers, who explained how the day would unfold. Afterwards, all participants were invited to take part in the different presentations that were held in two different classrooms, with different speakers and their multiple stories and experiences in the field of translation through presentations, powerpoints and discussions that further facilitated sharing. The speakers highlighted different translation techniques, the various issues that can arise, and especially the power of the translator.

The boys also participated in an evening organized at the Central Market where they took the opportunity to get to know better and chat with all the participants of the event.

On the second day, the Job Fair, thanks to which students had the opportunity to do some interviews with many translation agencies by leaving their resumes. Once the interviews were over, the last day ended with more speeches, discussions and some final remarks regarding not only the work of the translator but also that of the language mediator.

The second master's students, nearing graduation, touched on what it means to be a language mediator on a national and international level, providing our school with plenty of new insights to work on in order to enrich our students' backgrounds. Needless to say, experiences like these are highly formative, which is why we were pleased to grasp the enthusiasm shown toward this event.
